One small consolation: Windows Refresh will save a list of all uninstalled programs to your desktop so you can go back and install them manually. I had some documents created and saved on desktop. Sometimes it will reveal one item that could be reversed in some other way without actually running the restore.

By running the restore in safe mode that should automaticly turn the anti virus off . Obviously if you have corrupted system files, it will fail.
