I read your site and tryed the safe mode internet and downloaded malware. If you see the exact same behavior with your hard drive unplugged, your issue is in no way related to a Windows update. Did something else happen too? Setup will copy all the necessary files to the hard drive and then reboot the system. This might take a lot of back and forth to resolve and that is the best place to do it. check over here
