I also tried reinstalling the game but it didn't help. Should I really partition both drives? If I learn anything from them I'll be sure to post back here. No other application is causing trouble, not even other games. Well as I've said--it's pretty difficult to try and put into words really. I ran a check disk this morning just out of curiosity and everything looked fine.
