intel core2 quad 3.0 pross. 2, 1 gig ddr3 mem cards, brand is OCSZ think. Vista x64 will freeze all the time now. PC could not write or read from disk until I would cold boot the PC. Samsung HD502HJ (500GB, SATA).

Did I mention that it locks up in safe mode as well. A relatively painless RMA to Patriot cured that problem.The easiest way to determine if this is hardware related is to boot another OS and see how stable that is. I had the task master on the screen so I could see the CPU usage at 63%. Turned off my hibernation, and sleep settings, also set at High Performance, and have been online now 10 minutes and hasn't frozen YET!!
- Windows 7 UltimateSP1 64bit, installed March 2016.
- This created a new Windows\Catroot2 folder and a new Windows\System32\SoftwareDistribution folder ...
- I have this problem and I am not running Avast only Windows Defender.

- Try going into MSCONFIG and disabling all your startup progs, and then in the services tab check the box that hides all MS Services, leaving you jus with the third party
- Try using the 181.20 drivers, they cleared up (most) of my issues.
- something like 15 minutes ...
- It makes me mad bc sometimes they work and sometimes it doesnt.
- Attempts to fix the problem seems to have made the problem worse.

Oh, one issue has been a long time occurence, about once every 30 hours of TF2 (gaming) nvidia video driver would crash and I would have to restart the game. I would run diagnostics to further investigate the issue. Thinking about upgrading to Windows 7, but not sure that will fix it.
